John Muir, a primary champion of the National Park idea, found his voice and calling here. His psalms of nature welled up from the base of Yosemite Falls and echoed off the granite face of El Capitan. We are left with his legacy in writing and in the preservation of 1,190 square miles of glorious Pacific high country in central California.
